  This type of glass fiber is produced randomly in various directions and irregularly. This glass fiber is the most widely used by fiberglass craftsmen because it is relatively cheap and easy to use. If translated literally into Indonesian, chopped strand mat means chopped strands of towels. It is true in fact, this type of glass fiber is like a collection of fibers that are chopped and formed into a new sheet or sheet. This type of fiber is very suitable as a reinforcement for polyester and epoxy type resins because it already contains a binder powder that will react when exposed to resin. The absorption capacity that can reach 1½ in weight makes this type of glass fiber strong enough to be used to support large loads. The thickness of this fiber is also produced differently from thin to thick and is sometimes combined with a better fiber, namely Woven Roving Fiberglass Mat.

  In addition to the direction of the woven/strand of fibers above, here are some things that are also important for us to know before choosing the appropriate glass fiber for our use, namely the size of the sales unit used. Glass fiber is calculated not by its width like buying cloth but by the weight of the material itself for example, which is widely sold is 200gr and 300gr, which means the weight of the roll per meter is 200 and 300 grams. But in reality, what is sold is per meter which weighs per square meter (m²) is 800gr. This sometimes creates confusion about the type of fiberglass to buy. Why do we need a measure of weight not width? The answer is because glass fiber is designed according to the use of resin according to its weight to ensure the resulting strength and by knowing the weight of glass fiber per meter of course we can easily determine how much resin and glass fiber we have to prepare for the surface area we want. This will reduce wastage and the difficulty of determining a suitable price for the material for commercial craftsmen or entrepreneurs of these crafts. Several types of glass fibers according to their characteristics require different amounts of resin infiltration, such as 1:1 for Woven Roving Mat and 1:1½ for Chopped Strand Mat.
